Treat
yourself to a week of pastel painting this summer in beautiful mid-coast
Maine. Based at an 1830’s New England farmhouse and barn in Waldoboro,
Maine, the Heywood Artist Retreat Week begins with a welcoming reception on
Sunday evening, followed by five full days of art, including painting
demonstrations and instruction, excursions to local scenic areas for plein air
painting,
sketching, and photo opportunities, painting in the air conditioned
Barn studio, and more. The Heywood Artist Retreat is limited to nine
participants, with much individual attention offered to each person. NEW: for
those who would like to paint independently after the retreat, the
uninstructed use of the Barn Studio on Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and 3rd
from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a nominal fee.
Fee:
$500. Fee includes five days of art instruction, Welcoming Reception,
"Lobster/Steak Bake" (one guest per participant to "Bake"
for an additional $25). Fee does not include accommodations, other meals,
transportation, any activity fees, or supplies. Directions and further information
regarding local accommodations, suggested materials, etc., provided upon
enrollment.

demonstration and/or special topic of instruction, along with painting time
for you to create own masterpieces. Bring your own personal still life set-up
for the first class, and reference materials (photos, still lifes, etc.) for
subsequent classes. Suggested materials list provided. For students with
previous experience in soft pastels.

"Beyond the Basics"
Pastel Weekend Workshop is custom-tailored to the early intermediate pastel
student who has already acquired the knowledge and experience of pastel
painting basics. The weekend includes pastel demonstrations of a simple still
life and a simple landscape, and plenty of individual guidance at your easel
while you work on your own masterpieces.
Saturday morning begins with a
hands-on review of basic pastel painting and materials, followed by watching a
pastel painting demonstration with step-by-step explanations. In addition to
plenty of painting time for participants, Beyond the Basics offers tips and
practical advice, such as how to frame pastel paintings. This workshop is held
indoors, in the comfortably-heated Heywood Studio/Gallery Barn in Waldoboro,
Maine, and is limited to only nine students.

paintings? Or perhaps you just want to "take charge" of framing your
paintings. Whether you do your own framing or not, it is always beneficial to
know the "safe" pastel framing techniques presented in this
workshop. Topics include framing with a mat, framing without a mat, and
framing with plexiglass for shipping.
